Commemorative Series, 330-354. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.05 g, 6 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, irregular mint, after 330. CONSTANT-INOPOLIS Helmeted, laureate and mantled bust of Constantinopolis to left, holding scepter over her left shoulder.
Rev. Victory standing front, head to left, placing her right foot on prow, holding scepter in her right hand and resting her left on shield; in field to left, star; in exergue, PTR. Cf. RIC 523 (for possible prototype). Slightly rough
, otherwise, very fine.
From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.
The style of this coin is almost official, but several features indicate that it is a contemporary 'barbarous' imitation. There is no known 'CONSTANTINOPOLIS' issue with 'PTR' as the mint mark, only 'TRP'. Equally unique is the star in the reverse field.
